Grow Your Own is a seasonal celebration of community and the human
spirit. Set entirely on the allotments at Blacktree Road, it’s a modern
story with timeless themes. The regulars are suspicious and resentful
when a refugee family is given a choice plot of land to cultivate, in the
hopes it will ease the trauma of leaving their country. Then more
foreigners arrive in this traditional enclave. A trendy executive wants to
buy up some of the land for a mobile phone mast. And people come
together to nurture crops, swap advice, make friends, heal their
psychological wounds and discover love. Several familiar television faces
can be found among the vegetables, and comic Omid Djalili makes a
memorable contribution to this delightful film.
