Ratatouille, chosen for Screen Bites’ three family matinees this year, not
only won the 2008 Animation Oscar but has delighted adults and
children around the world. It is the story of Remy, a country rat who
reads cookery books for entertainment, and goes to the city where he
meets Linguini, an incompetent kitchen boy in a great restaurant. Rats
aren’t popular in restaurants, so our hero has to hide, and in so doing
helps the shy Italian boy to success in the kitchen and in love. The
choreography of the rats in the kitchen is a delight. Peter O’Toole’s
voice as Anton Ego, the feared restaurant critic, almost steals the show.
